Tuscany Tour: Here are a few examples.
Florence
PIck-up Rv and the first stop on this wonderful tour.
Here you can overnight at the Michelangelo campsite. This site is close to all the
city’s main attractions like Ponte Vecchio, the Uffizi, Palazzo
Vecchio, the Cathedral and Baptistery, Giotto’s Bell Tower,
Michelangelo’s statue of David, etc.
Next on to San Giminiano and Siena.
Known as the Italian Manhattan, San Giminiano is famous for it’s medieval towers - 13 of the original 70 towers built in the 12th and 13th centuries are still standing. Then on to Siena and the Girasole campsite. The city prospered in past times thanks to it’s advantageous position on the Via Franchigena, once the main route for European pilgrims on their way to Rome. It became so rich and powerful that it even defeated Florence in 1260.
Montalcino and Bagno Vignoni,
Montalcino is a typical Tuscan medieval town, is made up of buildings with stone walls and the town gives it’s name to a well known wine from the area “Brunello di Montalcino”. A visit to a local vineyard is a most, to get to know and appreciate the art and dedication behind the making of the “nectar of the Gods”. Back on the road, head for Bagno Vignoni for a few days relaxing in the natural thermal spas.
The characteristic of Bagno Vigoni, besides the thermal waters, is its unchanged structure. Infact, the main square of this town is not like it can be imagined in other places, but it is made by boiling water that flows at 52°. The thermal water basin, by the fact, is in the middle of the of the square, closed on three sides by the town walls, one metre and a half tall. All around there are some buildings realised by Bernardo Rossellino in Pope’s Pio II honour, and the open arcade where S. Caterina da Siena stopped.
